Mad Men Scene Signal 30 Episode 5 Season 5
Mad Men

Scene: Signal 30 Episode 5, Season 5
The laughter, the girlfriend bonding, the fashion- this scene is contagious! Straight from Mad Men's Episode 5, this scene is a perfect peg for the New Year festivities, don't you think? Mad Men showcases how sexist the 50s-60s era were, however, it also can't help but take to view the classic glamour of a lady via the elegant clothes she wears, the demure maturity, sophisticated conservativeness and the -though vehemently and consistently stopped- undeniable intellect and wits.

Now we pay tribute to the women of the said era; that despite their hardship and struggle, their class never waned and their style forever encapsulated. We take on the fashion, specifically from the scene, and steal it here in our modern world.

Cynthia's look (Left)

Miss Selfridge Fluro lime strappy side shift dress £35.00 | Nine West Two tone leather pointy toe pump with adjustable ankle strap closure $79.00 | Dorothy Perkins Gold small wire hoops £5.00 and Gold chain and rhinestone bracelet with magnetic clasp £10.00

Of course, we won't find the exact style especially since dresses today are more form fitting. Shift dresses are classic because of its clean made-up nature. The side cuts however adds modernity. To retain elegance, wear it with a pointy shoe in basic color and put on some gold.

Megan's outfit (Center)

Topshop Boutique Garden floral print silk long sleeve dress with dropped waist £100.00 |Nine West Glittering black satin pointy toe pump with embellished heel and glittered sole $44.50 | Dorothy Perkins Tear rhinestone shaped necklace with black rope £10.00

This dress perfectly emulates Megan's outfit while bringing it to the 21st century. The print of this dress reminds us of sophisticated tea parties and brunches attended by our grandparents. The glittered sole of the satin pointed shoe and the black rhinestone neck piece allows for a dressier modern take on the outfit.
Trudy's outfit (Right)

Topshop Green white liberty poppy print dress with backless bodice and full voluminous skirt with green waistband £75.00 | Nine West Taupe leather round toe platform pump $69.30

Trudy's dress is a little tricky in the sense that, finding a midi semi bouffant waist dress is near impossible. Midis, in form of dresses and skirt, made a come back (thank God) early 2013 but most are simple A-lines. This green white liberty poppy print dress from Topshop provides the necessary volume from waist down, thanks to waistband which allowed sheering. Pairing it with a nude closed pumps will keep the look classy like that of Trudy's. No need for accessories as the detail on the back already gives accent to the outfit.

50s/60s fashion remains to be one of the most classic styles. And one of my favorites... well next to the Flapper of the 20s and the La Belle Epoque of course. What do you think about the looks? What's your favorite fashion era? :)
